Why I Started Tours of Cedar Lake?

Updated: Dec 5, 2024

I never considered being a tour guide or running a tour business, but then I moved near Cedar Lake in Minneapolis and, whoa, it totally blew my mind! And let me tell you, that wow factor has just kept getting stronger in the five years I've been living by its shores. So, yeah, to answer the question, it was because of the lake! 😄

Cedar Lake From South Point

Minneapolis is called The City of Lakes for a reason, there are so many lakes here! But have you ever wondered about Cedar Lake? It's like a hidden gem in the city. You might be thinking, how can a lake in the city be hidden? Well, unlike many other lakes in MPLS, you can't just drive around Cedar Lake. Plus, there are woods and only rough footpaths around most of the East and North sides of Cedar, making it less accessible. That's why you'll find far fewer people there compared to popular spots like Bde Maka Ska, Lake of the Isles, Nokomis, or Lake Harriet. So, while those places are packed on a sunny day, Cedar Lake remains a peaceful escape with only a few people strolling around.

Oh, and you know what? My favorite place to catch a sunset in Minneapolis is definitely Cedar. It's got that extra something with a horizon line of trees and no buildings in sight. Seriously, if I you look at this sunset pic from Cedar, you'd think it could have been taken in the woods "up North!" And, big news, we are adding a Champagne Sunset Tour to our Hidden Cedar Tours, so if you want something fun and romantic with a guide who will take professional style photos of you along the way, this tour is perfect.

Cedar Lake Sunset, Minneapolis

Back in the day when I first started hanging out by Cedar, I used to bring my family and friends to check out the lake. They were totally amazed by the peaceful woods, the animals, the awesome beaches, and the history of the area. They couldn't believe how close it was to downtown MPLS and how unique it was compared to the other city lakes. I made it a habit to walk around Cedar three or four times a week and soak in all its beauty. Then I thought, why not let others experience this too? And that's why I started tours of Cedar Lake and the Hidden MPLS. I'm sure you're gonna dig Cedar and see how it stands out from the rest, so come along with me on a tour of Hidden Cedar!
